East Leeds 26 v 22 Sherburn
This game turned out to be one of the best games so far this season as East Leeds deservedly
raced into a 26-0 lead at half time with Sherburn running round like headless Chickens with no place to go. First on the score sheet for East Leeds was Tim Norfolk who went in at the side of the sticks for
Reece Young to convert 6-0 Ten minutes later Dean Langton scored a good try out wide kick missed
10-0.Sherburn started to put pressure on East Leeds but just failed at the last minute to convert into points. Fraser Butterfield the put his side further ahead when he went in under the post for Young to
convert 16-0. With half time approaching Tim Norfolk scored his second try and converted it himself
to make the score 22-0 and Sherburn down and out.Referee Kevin Kinderland was just about to blow his whistle for half time when Jimmy Prior scored in the corner conversion missed 26-0 H-T and
East Leeds spectators waiting for the second half run away. Second half got under way and Sherburn
were playing much better, but still showing nil on the score board. On 65 minutes Sherburn finally got
on the score sheet when Steve Wood darted under the post from acting half back for a good try he
converted himself 26-6.Soon after the restart Lewis Booth scored five metres from the post Wood
again converted 26-12 to give Sherburn a respectable score .Ten minutes was left in play when
Steve Denton scored out wide for Sherburn kick missed 26-16.More pressure from Sherburn let
Paul Walshaw in under the stick with Reece Hughes converting and game on at 26-22 with five minutes
left. Sherburn had come back well and try as they may East Leeds got their Defence back together and held out until the final whistle was blown. Both teams congratulated each other and East Leeds had a
sigh of relief on their faces as Sherburn in Disbelief at what could have been if they had turned up in the first half.Great game.
Get to Normanton next week for two more finals. First on Wednesday 2/06/10 we have the Division
Three Top Four Final between Chequerfield v Featherstone L. Then on Friday 4/06/10 Ossett T
take on Bentley G C in Division One Top Four Final. So hope to see you all their for two cracking games.
