This game was one of the best games played at any level in the Yorkshire League this season. Nobody left the ground as extra time had to separate these two teams of Gladiators. First to strike was
Chequerfield when Dave Wright went in at the corner, Danny Glassell coverted to give the slight favourites a lead they deserved 0-6. Featherstone hit back ten minutes later when Arron Thirling crossed in the corner kick Richard Frankland converted 6-6. Frankland then scored a good try and converted to give Featherstone the lead 12-6. More pressure from Featherstone had Scott Glasshill going over in the corner
Frankland again converted to take the score to 18-6.Some good hard forward work paId off for Chequerfield when Jamie Williams went in at the side of the post and Glassell to convert making the score 18-12.
at half time.Second half kicked off and both teams were playing some great Rugby,but it was Featherstone who scored again when Sam Wilson went under the post and Frankland kicked conversion 24-12. Pressure then came from Chequerfield but try as they could they just made mistakes at the wrong time.Featherstone seemed to have settled for their 24 points and were committed to defence,but things started to click with Chequerfield and when Alex Linsey scored near the post for Glassell to convert to bring the score to 24-18 with five minutes left. Time was tickking away and Featherstone looked to have held on,but nobody had told Chequerfield players as they put Featherstone under a great deal of pressure which with two minutes left Jamie Williams got his second try under the sticks and Glassell converted to bring the scores tied at 24-24 on Full Time.First half of extra time got under way and within three minutes of that ten minute spell Featherstone had sealed the game when Martin Nichol went in for a good try and Frankland converted 30-24. From the kick off Featherstone went straight back to the Chequerfield line and Arron Thirling scored Frankland converted 36-24.The last ten minutes saw Chequerfield pile on pressure but this time couldn;t brake the defence and with the last play of a cracking game a drop goal from Scott Glasshill brought the game to an end. Everybody their showed their appreciation by clapping both teams for an excellent game of Rugby.Man Of The Match was given to Danny Richardson Number 8 Featherstone.
